Google SEO for Malaysian Businesses – A Localized Strategy

Imagine a playing field with 20 players instead of 5,000. That’s the advantage of localized SEO in Malaysia. By targeting specific local searches, you’re competing in a smaller, more focused arena, increasing your chances of reaching the top.

Google Prioritizes Geographically Relevant Businesses

Want to be found by local customers? Google’s got you covered. Its search algorithms prioritize businesses near the searcher, giving you a powerful advantage in your local market. Let’s take a look at the screenshot below. Notice the general search terms for ‘car mechanic’ automatically show results for mechanics in Petaling Jaya, Selangor (from where I am searching) instead of a mechanic in the United States. This is automatic, even though I wasn’t explicitly searching for a car mechanic in Petaling Jaya. Google understands that someone looking for a car mechanic would want to find mechanics nearby and not across the globe.

Google SEO for Malaysia Tip #1 – Be Sure to Mention Geographical Location

Knowing this, you can create content that mentions your location, basically, “Car Mechanic in SS2, Petaling Jaya, Selangor, Malaysia”. You can use localized terms within your content such as currency – “Ringgit”, Name of Road, Address, Postcode, etc. Using localized terms helps Google understand your service area, ensuring your website appears in relevant local searches.

Google SEO for Malaysia Tip #2 – Be Sure to Research Related Keywords

Next, we can also see closely related terms that Malaysians are searching for.

Potential customers are also looking for AC Repair, Transmission Shop, Auto Glass Repair, Tire Repair, etc. If your website were to just have content on the ‘Mechanic’ keyword, you would miss out on so many other keywords that will bring in business.

But wait, there’s more.

Google SEO for Malaysia Tip #3 – Be Sure to Have a Business Profile

Notice also how Google shows ‘Google Business Profile / Places’ above the organic search results? This means that business and services related search terms will trigger these snippets, even before the natural organic results are shown. Of course you should create your business profile, as these will get visibility first before the user scrolls further down to the organic results.

Wait, there’s even more.

Google SEO for Malaysia Tip #4 – Be Sure to Include Content in Multiple Languages

Look at the searched keywords above? Bahasa Melayu searches?
The business profiles and also the organic search results below now show an entirely different set of websites, written in Bahasa Melayu.

The BM searches adds an additional 35,000 searches to the total search volume.

Don’t just compete – dominate. A strategic SEO approach can propel your business to the top of search results, generating a consistent flow of organic traffic and leaving your competitors in the dust
